the bliss of lebaran at jakarta

Traffic Jam is a part of every Jakarta and suburbs residents daily routine.
Early before sunrise, some people have to leave their house to reach their workplace on time.
And they reach home late at night. All because of the traffic jam. It's been a chronic problem over the years. No significant improvement and efforts done by Jakarta's state government to relieve this problem. Even, the 'BUSWAY' project corridor 9 and 10 which has just started worsen the traffic jam. While the purpose of having Busway in Jakarta as public mass transportation to reduce personal car usage. Yet, i think those who own private vehicles still prefer to use their own instead of commuting with public transportation. From security issues, comfort, and other personal reasons that discourage people to use public transportation in Jakarta.

As for myself, i am lucky for living at central Jakarta. I don't know for how much longer though :> well, i suppose sooner or later heavy traffic and long hours on the road will be my daily issues as well.

There is one period to enjoy Jakarta's roads though. It is on the Lebaran holiday, where nearly 60% of Jakarta's residents are going back to their home town to celebrate Idul Fitri.
Which is for year 2007 is NOW!!!!!!!! From 12-19 October 2007 is declared as 'Cuti Bersama' or 'Mass Leave' a very long extended holiday.

Today, i have start working again and it's a bliss where i can reach office in 15 minutes.
And earlier days, it's really a bliss to drive in Jakarta.

I wonder when will Jakarta be traffic free........

Maybe the new elected governor of Jakarta can do something significant to ease and improve quality of life in this beloved town.
